Overnight Camp at Yellow Post Site #7

Just posted a video from my overnight trip to the San Bernardino Mountains near Big Bear to find Yellow Post site #7. I did this overnight trip a while back on the weekend we changed our clocks. There was a storm that went through earlier in the week so there was a lot of snow up in the mountains. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make it up there and had some back-up plans. Turned out that where I was headed was behind a rain/snow shadow and didn’t get so much snow. There was still some snow up there but I was able to find the camping site and camp there. It was a cold night with quite a bit of frost on the windows in the morning. I was toasty warm all bundled up but didn’t want to get up in the morning till the sun had come up above the hill behind me and warmed things up a bit.

I also tried doing some nighttime star trace videos with not much success. Getting better though from my last attempt at Joshua Tree so I will keep trying on that. It was a clear night but there was a lot of light from LA in the background of the sky. I am still not sure how best to do the settings. My cloud time-lapse worked well though so I’ll call that a win. I am really enjoying getting away for overnight trips in the truck. I am getting all my camping gear dialed in nicely. I have a bunch of other places in my list to check out so watch for more videos.

This spot is a really nice spot that I would go back to. I wonder though if it would ever be available during the summer or on nicer weekends. There is a regular campground just a 1/4 mile away but it was closed when I was up there on this weekend. There were also some other spots that would be possible for camping in the area around there but in my opinion this was the nicest one.
