A Trip Down the Bradshaw Trail

Posted the video this past weekend from my trip on the Bradshaw Trail. I did this drive on the weekend of 15th May 2021 which is a bit late to be doing desert camping here in Southern California. I didn’t see anyone else on the trail and on the first day it was hot. Luckily, it cooled down at night and was fine overnight.

This trail wasn’t as interesting as the Mojave Road trail but has its own interesting aspects. One thing I missed that I wish I had done was to take the Red Canyon trail out after seeing the trestle bridge. The trail after the trestle bridge and down to the Coachella aqueduct is TERRIBLE!!!! It is wash-boarded in such a way that you get shaken like crazy and can only drive very slowly. It is so frustrating as it is only a 1-2 mile section but takes forever to drive. There is nothing redeeming about going on this section of trail. The drive along the aqueduct is fine but just need to watch for being able to exit that area and get down to the Salton sea. There is some loose sand around there and I had to help someone who got stuck. Luckily, we were able to push them out as I don’t carry any rescue gear. My approach to the whole trail driving thing is that I drive in 2-wheel drive and I always have 4wd in case I get into a situation that I need it. If I need it for anything other than a short stretch of getting me out of something then it is time to turn around. I also keep my eyes open and note possible turn around spots on trails that look like they are getting a bit challenging. I have reversed a short distance out of some places but can usually find somewhere to turn around. I am not afraid to do a 10-point turn to get myself turned around. Also, my front and back bumpers have some scuff marks on them where I have got close to rocks when turning around. I am not precious about my truck and it getting dinged up a bit.

Hope you enjoy this video. Appreciate any comments or suggestions.
