On the Playlist 26OCT2018…

Listening to Portland Cello Project and the track Denmark from their album "Thousand Words." Heard this first on NPR and tracked it down. Then got into Portland Cello Project and have a couple of their albums. As you might guess this is a cello group from Portland although they do incorporate some other instruments the main thrust is cello. They have some interesting goals for the group as follows:

1. "To bring the cello to places you wouldn't normally hear it."

2. "To play music on the cello you wouldn't normally hear played on the instrument."

3. "To build bridges across all musical communities by bringing a diverse assortment of musical collaborators on stage with them."

Cello Metal - three classically trained cellists got together and formed a metal band called Apocalyptica. Hailing from Finland they started as a Metallica cover band using Cellos in place of guitars and then evolved to doing their own original music. Their latest album called Shadowmaker released in 2015. Now that is something different.
